Better than Great Clips

For the finer things in life, you'll have to go to D.C., but if your aim is a decent hair cut that is a cut above Great Clips, then Bananas is fine. Ask for Kathleen.

The Family Flagship

A successful locally owned chain of pizza and sub shops, the Bladensburg store is the family's first business. The cool thing is that it contains an Italian import shop and deli counter where you can get prosciutto, cheese, bread and pastries, many different olive oils, herbs, pastas and other pantry items. Some of the imports are serious bargains that would sell for three times the price at Whole Foods or Balducci's. They also have catering supplies.

Good Solid Subs

Not fancy but it is local, fast, and consistent. They use the right kind of bread for the subs. They do brisk business at lunch for take out orders.

The Only Game in Town

Thank goodness for Mike Franklin's vision for a vibrant Hyattsville. Franklin's offers a fun atmosphere and funky building that blends old and new architecture. The restaurant has spurred redevelopment on Route 1 and is a center for the community.

Great Value and Atmosphere

Atlanta is great for casual outdoor dining. Taqueria del Sol takes simple food and prepares it consistently well at a great value. You may have to stand in a long line, but if the weather is nice you won't mind.

Quick and Cheap

Cheap, fast, and certainly worthy of your dockers and shirts. Wouldn't take my heirloom items there, but otherwise, why pay more?

Mod Decor

Located across from the GA Tech Conference Center, the Globe is a good location for a business dinner or drinks after work. The decor is very spare and modern and the drink menu is elaborate. I went with a group of 15 and the service seemed to be quite good - they seated us immediately and the service was prompt. The menu was healthy and had enough variety to please most people. I wouldn't say the food was outstanding, but it was certainly good and a pleasant change of pace.
